Overview

Minocycline + penicillin G is a combination of two antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections. Minocycline is a tetracycline-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing the addition of amino acids to growing peptide chains[1][4][8]. Penicillin G (also known as benzylpenicillin) is a beta-lactam antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting cell wall synthesis through binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis[3]. This combination may be considered in certain clinical scenarios where both drugs are indicated; however, studies have shown that there is no significant synergy between them against some bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus producing beta-lactamase[2]. Each drug retains its individual mechanism of action when used together.
