Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DFD-29 is a novel, oral, modified-release formulation of minocycline hydrochloride (40 mg capsule; 10 mg immediate release and 30 mg extended release) developed for the treatment of rosacea in adults. It is designed to provide higher dermal concentrations of minocycline from day one compared to doxycycline at a similar dose, with steady drug delivery that reduces fluctuations in plasma levels. This pharmacokinetic profile aims to improve efficacy and tolerability by addressing both inflammatory lesions (papules and pustules) and erythema associated with rosacea. In phase 3 clinical trials (MVOR-1 and MVOR-2), DFD-29 demonstrated statistically superior efficacy over both placebo and the current standard-of-care oral therapy (doxycycline 40 mg; Oracea), achieving greater reductions in lesion counts as well as improvements in erythema scores. The drug was well tolerated with no major safety issues or serious adverse events reported[2][6][10].
