Overview

Mirtazapine + noscapine is a combination of two small molecule drugs. Mirtazapine is an atypical tetracyclic antidepressant primarily used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, with additional off-label uses including insomnia, anxiety disorders, and appetite stimulation. Its mechanism involves antagonism at central presynaptic α2-adrenergic inhibitory autoreceptors and heteroreceptors, leading to increased noradrenergic and serotonergic neurotransmission. It also acts as an antagonist at certain serotonin receptors (notably 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A) and has strong antihistaminergic effects[2][5]. Noscapine is a phthalideisoquinoline alkaloid traditionally used as a cough suppressant. Recent research has shown that noscapine also exhibits anti-tumor properties by inducing apoptosis in various cancer cell lines[6]. The combination of mirtazapine and noscapine does not correspond to any known approved or widely studied pharmaceutical product; thus, its clinical use or development status as a fixed-dose combination remains unclear.
