Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of the antidepressant mirtazapine and the antipsychotic olanzapine. Mirtazapine is a tetracyclic antidepressant that works by antagonizing adrenergic alpha-2 autoreceptors and heteroreceptors, as well as blocking serotonin 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors. Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic that primarily blocks dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This combination is used for treating complex psychiatric conditions including depression with psychotic features, anorexia nervosa with comorbid depression, and treatment-resistant depression.
