Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This investigational combination therapy consists of the prostaglandin E1 analog misoprostol and the synthetic corticosteroid dexamethasone. It is being evaluated in clinical research conducted by Cairo University for its efficacy in labor induction in term pregnancies. Misoprostol acts on prostaglandin receptors to promote cervical ripening and stimulate uterine contractions. Dexamethasone, a potent glucocorticoid, is hypothesized to enhance the cervical ripening process and accelerate labor by modulating inflammatory pathways and potentially increasing myometrial sensitivity to oxytocic agents. In the study context, the treatment involves the co-administration of vaginal misoprostol tablets and intramuscular dexamethasone injections.
