Drug intelligence / Profile preview
misoprostol + letrozole is a combination therapy investigated for the medical termination of pregnancy, particularly in the second trimester and for missed abortions. Letrozole is a third-generation non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor that blocks the conversion of androgens to estrogens. In the context of pregnancy termination, the reduction in estrogen levels is hypothesized to increase the sensitivity of the myometrium to prostaglandins and potentially interfere with progesterone synthesis, thereby facilitating the abortion process. Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) analog that binds to myometrial prostaglandin receptors, inducing cervical ripening and uterine contractions. The combination is typically administered to improve the efficacy of complete abortion and shorten the induction-to-abortion interval compared to misoprostol monotherapy.
