Overview

MITI-001 is a complex live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a defined consortium of 157 live bacterial strains representing 79 genera of commensal bacteria. These strains were originally isolated from healthy donor stool, purified, and banked to create a standardized, transplantable gut bacterial community. Developed by researchers at Stanford University and sponsored in clinical trials by EpiCypher, MITI-001 is designed to treat diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) by restoring a healthy gut microbiome and correcting microbial metabolic dysfunctions that contribute to IBS symptoms. Unlike traditional fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), MITI-001 is a defined, manufactured consortium intended to provide a safer and more consistent therapeutic profile by targeting the pathophysiologic lesion in a subset of IBS-D patients.
