Overview

**Mitomycin** is a small-molecule antineoplastic antibiotic and DNA-alkylating agent used in this context as intravesical **mitomycin C delivered by electromotive drug administration** for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. The University of Rome Tor Vergata clinical regimen instills mitomycin C into the bladder and applies a controlled intravesical electric current to enhance transport and penetration through the urothelium and bladder wall. Mitomycin undergoes reductive activation and forms covalent DNA cross-links, inhibiting DNA replication and promoting tumor-cell death. Tor Vergata-sponsored randomized studies evaluated electromotive mitomycin after transurethral resection against passive intravesical mitomycin or resection alone, including protocols using 40 mg mitomycin C with electric current for 30 minutes.
