Overview

Mitomycin-c + cisplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two antineoplastic agents—mitomycin-C and cisplatin. Mitomycin-C is an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA, inhibiting DNA synthesis and leading to cell death. Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic that forms DNA adducts and cross-links, also disrupting DNA replication and transcription. This combination has demonstrated antitumor activity in several malignancies, including advanced or recurrent squamous-cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix[1], malignant mesothelioma[2], and has been studied in other solid tumors such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)[5]. The regimen is generally administered intravenously on a cyclical basis and can be given on an outpatient basis. Toxicities are primarily gastrointestinal and hematological but are considered manageable.
