Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HE071 is a liposomal formulation of mitoxantrone hydrochloride, a synthetic anthracenedione antineoplastic agent and type II topoisomerase inhibitor. Developed by CSPC Pharmaceutical Group, this formulation is designed to optimize the therapeutic index of mitoxantrone by enhancing drug delivery to tumor tissues or lymphoid organs while minimizing cardiotoxicity, a known dose-limiting side effect of conventional mitoxantrone. Mitoxantrone intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to DNA strand breaks and inhibition of DNA synthesis. In the context of autoimmune diseases like neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), it acts as a potent immunosuppressant by depleting B cells, T cells, and macrophages. The product is approved in China for the treatment of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) and is undergoing Phase II clinical evaluation for NMOSD and other malignancies including small cell lung cancer and breast cancer.
