Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MK-0557 + orlistat is a combination therapy that was investigated for weight management in obese patients. MK-0557 is a neuropeptide Y5 receptor (NPY5R) antagonist that targets central counter-regulatory mechanisms related to the orexigenic hormone neuropeptide Y. Orlistat is a pancreatic lipase inhibitor that reduces the absorption of dietary fat in the intestine. The combination was studied to determine if NPY5R antagonism could enhance the weight loss efficacy of orlistat.
