Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MMP-9 inhibitor (RNAi) refers to RNA interference-based therapeutic agents, such as small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) or short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs), designed to selectively knock down the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). MMP-9 is a zinc-dependent endopeptidase involved in extracellular matrix degradation, tissue remodeling, and inflammatory processes. In the context of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, MMP-9 has been shown to negatively regulate anti-HBV B-cell responses and suppress interferon-mediated antiviral pathways. Knockdown of MMP-9 via RNAi has demonstrated preclinical efficacy in accelerating the clearance of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and enhancing hepatitis B surface antibody (HBsAb) production, suggesting its potential as a novel therapeutic strategy for chronic HBV.
