MOD-6031 is a long-acting oxyntomodulin (OXM) analog being developed by OPKO Health for the treatment of obesity. The drug utilizes OPKO's proprietary Carboxy-Terminal Peptide (CTP) technology, which involves the fusion of the CTP of the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) beta subunit to the oxyntomodulin peptide to significantly extend its half-life and duration of action. MOD-6031 functions as a dual agonist of the Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) and the Glucagon receptor (GCGR). Activation of GLP-1R reduces food intake by increasing satiety and slowing gastric emptying, while activation of GCGR increases metabolic rate and energy expenditure. This synergistic approach aims to provide more effective weight loss and metabolic improvement than single-receptor agonists, potentially allowing for once-weekly or less frequent subcutaneous administration.
