This therapeutic regimen involves the co-administration of the Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccine (Spikevax) and Regeneron's monoclonal antibody cocktail, casirivimab and imdevimab (REGEN-COV). mRNA-1273 is a lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated messenger RNA vaccine that encodes the prefusion-stabilized spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2, designed to induce both humoral and cellular immune responses. Casirivimab and imdevimab are two non-competing human IgG1 monoclonal antibodies that bind to distinct, non-overlapping epitopes on the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, thereby neutralizing the virus and preventing its entry into host cells. This combination was specifically evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT04852978) to assess the potential interference of the monoclonal antibodies with the vaccine-induced immune response in healthy, seronegative adults.
