Overview
Modified Simiao Yong'an decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences for the treatment of non-infectious uveitis. It is a modified version of the classic Simiao Yong'an decoction, which traditionally comprises four primary herbs: Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (honeysuckle), Scrophulariae Radix (figwort root), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Chinese angelica), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (licorice). The modification is specifically tailored to address the TCM syndrome of "heat toxin entering the collaterals," a pathological state associated with severe intraocular inflammation. Administered as granules, the decoction is evaluated as an adjunctive therapy to basal treatment to improve clinical outcomes and reduce the recurrence of uveitis by modulating inflammatory pathways and clearing systemic heat toxins.
