Overview

Mometasone furoate + oral antihistamine refers to the co-administration of the inhaled or intranasal corticosteroid mometasone furoate with an oral antihistamine (such as loratadine or cetirizine) for the treatment of allergic disorders, typically seasonal allergic rhinitis. Mometasone furoate is a potent synthetic corticosteroid that works by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators from immune cells in nasal mucosa. Oral antihistamines block H1 histamine receptors, reducing symptoms mediated by histamine like itch, sneezing, and rhinorrhea. The combination does not generally offer substantial additional benefit over mometasone furoate monotherapy for allergic rhinitis, although some patients with refractory symptoms may be prescribed both agents[1][3].
