The monovalent VEE VLP vaccine + aluminum hydroxide is a recombinant virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine candidate designed to prevent infection by the Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus (VEEV). The vaccine consists of VEEV structural proteins—specifically the capsid and the envelope glycoproteins E1 and E2—that self-assemble into non-infectious particles mimicking the native virus structure. These VLPs induce a potent neutralizing antibody response without the risks associated with live-attenuated or inactivated whole-virus vaccines. It is formulated with aluminum hydroxide (Alhydrogel) as an adjuvant to enhance its immunogenicity. Developed by the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), this candidate is intended for populations at risk of VEEV exposure, including laboratory workers, military personnel, and for biodefense applications.
