Overview

A combination of montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for asthma and allergies, and favipiravir, an antiviral that inhibits viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The combination has been studied for potential synergistic effects in treating COVID-19. Favipiravir can decrease the metabolism of montelukast by inhibiting Cytochrome P450 (CYP2C8), potentially increasing montelukast's bioavailability. Montelukast has shown potential to bind to and block SARS-CoV-2 proteins, while favipiravir inhibits viral replication.
