Overview
A fixed-dose combination (FDC) of montelukast and levocetirizine developed for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and comorbid asthma. Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene CysLT1 receptor, thereby reducing airway edema, smooth muscle contraction, and inflammatory cell infiltration associated with the late-phase allergic response. Levocetirizine is a third-generation, non-sedating H1-antihistamine that provides relief from early-phase symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and pruritus. The combination is designed to provide superior efficacy over monotherapy by targeting both the histamine and leukotriene pathways. It is marketed under various brand names including Monterizine (Hanmi Pharmaceutical) and Xyzal M (UCB/Dr. Reddy's).
