Overview

Morphine + droperidol is a combination of two small molecule drugs used primarily in the management of postoperative pain and to reduce opioid-induced nausea and vomiting. Morphine is an opioid analgesic that acts on the central nervous system to relieve severe pain by binding to and activating the mu-opioid receptor, altering the perception and response to pain. Droperidol is a butyrophenone derivative that functions as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist, providing antiemetic effects and sedation. When combined, droperidol reduces the incidence of morphine-induced nausea and vomiting without increasing significant side effects, improving patient comfort during patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) for postoperative pain[2][9]. This combination does not have a unique brand name formulation but is used in clinical practice by mixing both agents in PCA devices.
