Overview

Morphine + hyaluronidase is a **combination of the opioid analgesic morphine and the enzyme hyaluronidase** used to enhance pain control, primarily by increasing the absorption and rapidity of effect of subcutaneously administered morphine. **Morphine** is a potent mu-opioid receptor agonist used for the management of moderate to severe pain by inhibiting nociceptive transmission in the central nervous system. **Hyaluronidase** is an enzyme that temporarily depolymerizes hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix, thereby increasing tissue permeability and improving the spread and absorption of co-administered drugs, such as morphine. Coadministration of these agents **shortens the time to maximum plasma concentration (Tmax) and increases peak plasma levels (Cmax) of morphine** when given subcutaneously, without significantly altering the overall extent of drug exposure, and appears to be safe and well tolerated in both healthy volunteers and palliative care patients[1][2]. This combination is typically utilized in palliative or supportive care, especially when intravenous access is challenging.
