Morphine + ketorolac is a combination of two analgesic drugs used primarily for the management of moderate to severe acute pain, especially in postoperative settings. Morphine is an opioid agonist that acts mainly on the mu-opioid receptor to provide potent analgesia by inhibiting pain transmission in the central nervous system. Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that provides analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects through non-selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis. The combination leverages both opioid and non-opioid mechanisms for enhanced pain control while allowing lower doses of each agent, which can reduce opioid-related adverse events such as urinary retention and sedation. Clinical studies have shown this combination to be more effective than either drug alone for postoperative pain relief, with reduced total consumption of both drugs and fewer side effects associated with higher-dose opioids[1][2][9].
