Moxidectin + albendazole is an oral fixed-dose combination of two antiparasitic agents used primarily in the treatment and control of lymphatic filariasis (LF) and investigated for other soil-transmitted helminth infections such as trichuriasis. Moxidectin is a milbemycin endectocide that acts by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels in nematodes, leading to paralysis and death of microfilariae. Albendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic that inhibits tubulin polymerization in parasites, disrupting essential cellular processes. The combination has been evaluated for mass drug administration (MDA) programs targeting LF due to its potential efficacy and safety profile. Clinical studies indicate that co-administration does not result in significant pharmacokinetic interactions between the two drugs[1][2][3][7]. While moxidectin has a longer half-life than ivermectin, which may offer advantages in some settings[5], recent trials suggest the combination's efficacy against trichuriasis may not be superior to monotherapy with albendazole[4][9].
