Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Moxifloxacin + DAV132** is a combination of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic moxifloxacin with DAV132, a colon-targeted adsorbent based on activated charcoal beads coated with pH-sensitive polymer. The combination is intended to be co-administered in order to prevent moxifloxacin-induced disruption of the gut microbiota (dysbiosis) in patients receiving systemic moxifloxacin. DAV132 acts locally in the colon by adsorbing antibiotic residues, thereby reducing fecal free moxifloxacin concentrations without affecting systemic plasma levels or the efficacy of moxifloxacin against infection. The primary indication is the protection of intestinal microbial diversity during (and after) courses of moxifloxacin therapy, especially in populations at risk for complications associated with microbiome disruption, such as *Clostridioides difficile* infection or increased acquisition of antimicrobial-resistant organisms. Co-administration of DAV132 with systemic moxifloxacin has shown in Phase 2 trials to significantly preserve intestinal microbiota diversity and resilience, reduce fecal antibiotic concentrations by >98%, and maintain resistance to pathogenic colonization, without increasing adverse event rates or impacting the antibiotic's plasma pharmacokinetics[3][5][7]. DAV132 is being developed by Da Volterra.
