Overview

MP-101 is an orally administered small molecule glutamate signaling modulator being developed by Novaremed for the prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). The drug consists of a specific non-racemic enantiomeric mixture of dimiracetam, containing three parts R-dimiracetam and one part S-dimiracetam (3:1 ratio). MP-101 acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist and works by blocking the release of glutamate from nerve terminals, thereby reducing the activity of NMDA receptors which are key mediators in neuronal damage and pain sensitization. Preclinical studies have shown that this specific ratio is pharmacologically more potent than racemic dimiracetam in models of neuropathic pain, cognition, and depression. The compound has demonstrated a benign safety profile in clinical studies and is currently in Phase 2 development as a non-opioid therapeutic for CIPN.
