Drug intelligence / Profile preview
mRNA-1273.211 is a bivalent mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine booster developed by Moderna. It consists of a 1:1 ratio of mRNA-1273, which encodes the spike protein of the ancestral SARS-CoV-2 strain, and mRNA-1273.351, which encodes the spike protein of the Beta (B.1.351) variant. Delivered via PEGylated lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), the vaccine instructs host cells to produce these spike proteins, thereby eliciting a broad neutralizing antibody response and cellular immunity. It was designed to provide enhanced protection against emerging variants of concern and has been evaluated in Phase 2/3 clinical trials as a booster dose for individuals who previously completed a primary vaccination series of the original mRNA-1273 vaccine.
