Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Factor Bioscience is developing a combination mRNA therapeutic consisting of mRNAs encoding the immunomodulatory proteins IκBα super-repressor (IκBα-SR) and extracellular superoxide dismutase 3 (SOD3). This therapy is designed to treat pneumonia-associated lung inflammation and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The mechanism involves inhibiting the NF-κB pathway via IκBα-SR and reducing oxidative stress via SOD3. The mRNAs are complexed with cationic lipids and delivered via a vibrating mesh nebulizer as an aerosolized formulation to the lungs, allowing for rapid protein expression and observable amelioration of pneumonia symptoms in preclinical models.
