MRT5421, MRT5424, and MRT5429 are experimental quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIV) candidates based on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology. Developed by Sanofi (following the acquisition of Translate Bio), these candidates utilize lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery systems to encode hemagglutinin (HA) proteins from four influenza strains (typically two A strains and two B strains). They are being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials to determine the optimal formulation for safety and immunogenicity compared to standard-of-care inactivated or recombinant influenza vaccines. The program aims to leverage the rapid manufacturing and potentially enhanced immune response associated with mRNA platforms to address seasonal influenza.
