Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination **vaccine candidate** comprising the recombinant fusion protein **Mtb72F**—a polyprotein derived from the antigens Mtb32 and Mtb39 of Mycobacterium tuberculosis—**formulated with the adjuvant AS02A**. Designed as an adjunct to Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccination, the combination aims to induce a strong and long-lasting Th1-type immune response (increased IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-2) to enhance protection against tuberculosis. In nonhuman primates and guinea pig models, Mtb72F + AS02A improved survival and promoted lesion resolution compared to BCG alone. Mtb72F/AS02A can serve as a booster following BCG vaccination and is under evaluation as a tuberculosis vaccine strategy[1][2].
