Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mucinex Night & Day (also marketed as Mucinex Day & Night) is a line of over-the-counter (OTC) multi-symptom cold, flu, and sinus combination products developed by Adams Laboratories (later acquired by Reckitt Benckiser). These products are typically sold as combo packs containing separate daytime and nighttime formulations. The daytime formulations generally contain active ingredients such as acetaminophen (pain reliever/fever reducer), guaifenesin (expectorant), phenylephrine hydrochloride (nasal decongestant), and dextromethorphan hydrobromide (cough suppressant) to relieve symptoms without causing drowsiness. The nighttime formulations typically include an antihistamine such as doxylamine succinate, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, or triprolidine hydrochloride to relieve runny nose and sneezing while promoting sleep, alongside acetaminophen, phenylephrine, and dextromethorphan. These products are administered orally as caplets, liquid gels, or liquids to temporarily relieve cold, flu, and sinus symptoms.
