Overview
Multi OIT (Multi-Allergen Oral Immunotherapy) is an investigational immunological intervention designed to desensitize individuals with multiple food allergies. It involves the simultaneous oral administration of gradually increasing doses of multiple food allergens, typically including milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts (almond, cashew, hazelnut, walnut), sesame, and wheat. The goal of the therapy is to induce desensitization and potentially sustained unresponsiveness by modulating the immune system's IgE-mediated and T-cell responses. In clinical research led by Dr. Xiu-Min Li at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and New York Medical College, Multi OIT is often evaluated in combination with adjunctive treatments such as the Chinese herbal formula E-B-FAHF-2 and the anti-IgE monoclonal antibody omalizumab (Xolair) to enhance safety and the likelihood of achieving long-term tolerance.
