Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Multiple electrolytes, sodium acetate and glucose injection is an intravenous infusion product containing a balanced mixture of electrolytes (including sodium acetate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium gluconate, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate) and glucose. Developed as a maintenance fluid, it is indicated for water, electrolyte, and energy supplementation in patients for whom oral intake is not possible or insufficient. The inclusion of sodium acetate serves as an alternative to lactate-based solutions, as acetate is metabolized more rapidly and broadly in the body (including in the kidneys and muscles, not just the liver), thereby avoiding lactic acid accumulation during large-volume transfusion. The glucose component provides essential energy, while the electrolyte composition closely mimics human plasma electrolyte concentrations to maintain systemic fluid and electrolyte balance.
