This recombinant live attenuated mumps vaccine is specifically designed to target the F genotype of the mumps virus (MuV), which is the predominant circulating genotype in China. Developed by the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS), in collaboration with the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the vaccine utilizes the SP-A strain—the first attenuated mumps virus isolated and prepared in China. Unlike widely used international vaccine strains such as Jeryl-Lynn (genotype A) or Urabe (genotype B), this candidate is engineered to provide a closer antigenic match to local epidemic strains. The vaccine is produced using the KMB-17 human diploid cell line as a substrate. It has undergone Phase I and Phase II clinical trials in healthy Chinese children and adults to evaluate its safety and immunogenicity, with Phase II studies focusing on dose selection for Phase III development.
