Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mupirocin + fluocinolone is a topical combination drug that pairs mupirocin, a topical antibiotic, with fluocinolone, a synthetic corticosteroid. Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, thereby blocking bacterial protein synthesis and leading to bacteriostatic or bactericidal effects against a range of Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus[7]. Fluocinolone is a corticosteroid that reduces skin inflammation by suppressing the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes via glucocorticoid receptor agonism[8]. The combination is used to treat skin disorders where bacterial infection and inflammation coexist, such as infected eczema or dermatitis.
