murepavadin + ertapenem

This is a combination of **murepavadin** and **ertapenem** used as investigational therapy for nosocomial pneumonia, including hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (HABP/VABP), especially where multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa or mixed Gram-negative infections are suspected. **Murepavadin** is a pathogen-specific cyclopeptide antibiotic and the first in the outer membrane protein targeting antibiotics (OMPTA) class, selectively binding to the LptD protein in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, leading to cell death. It is not active against Enterobacteriaceae or other Gram-negatives. **Ertapenem** is a carbapenem β-lactam antibiotic with broad activity against Enterobacteriaceae and other Gram-negative (and some Gram-positive) bacteria, but minimal activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This combination is being clinically evaluated as an empiric regimen to cover both Pseudomonas aeruginosa (by murepavadin) and most other likely Gram-negative pathogens in cases of HABP/VABP (by ertapenem).
