Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Murine norovirus vaccine + IgA** refers to the experimental combination or comparative study of a murine norovirus (MNV) vaccine and immunoglobulin A (IgA) therapy. In preclinical research led by Yale University and collaborating institutions, researchers investigated the correlates of protective immunity against norovirus. They demonstrated that while systemic vaccination with the viral capsid protein (VP1) generates a robust systemic IgG response, it fails to protect against enteric norovirus infection. In contrast, mucosal IgA (specifically dimeric IgA delivered prophylactically via mRNA lipid nanoparticles) is necessary and sufficient to confer sterilizing immunity and completely protect against MNV infection in the small intestine. This research highlights the critical role of mucosal IgA in norovirus protection and suggests that IgA-based immunotherapeutics or vaccines designed to elicit mucosal IgA are essential for effective human norovirus prevention.
