MVA-C + gp140 + MF59 is a combination HIV-1 vaccine regimen designed to induce robust immune responses against HIV-1 subtype C. The regimen typically involves priming with a modified vaccinia Ankara vector expressing HIV-1 subtype C antigens (MVA-C), followed by boosting with a recombinant soluble envelope protein (gp140) formulated with the oil-in-water adjuvant MF59. This approach aims to stimulate both cellular and humoral immunity. The MVA-C component delivers viral antigens to elicit T-cell responses, while the gp140 protein boost—adjuvanted by MF59—enhances binding and neutralizing antibody production targeting the HIV envelope glycoprotein. Clinical studies have shown that this combination increases CD4+ T-cell responses and induces durable neutralizing antibodies in vaccinated individuals[1][2]. The regimen has been evaluated primarily for preventive vaccination against HIV-1 infection.
