Overview

MVA HIV-B vaccine + vedolizumab is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. The combination consists of the **MVA HIV-B therapeutic vaccine** (also known as MVATG17401) and the humanized monoclonal antibody **vedolizumab** (Entyvio). The MVA HIV-B vaccine utilizes a Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector to deliver genetic sequences for the HIV-1 Clade B Gag, Pol, and Nef proteins, aiming to stimulate a robust HIV-specific T-cell immune response. Vedolizumab targets the **integrin α4β7** receptor, which is expressed on gut-homing CD4+ T-cells and serves as a potential co-receptor for HIV entry. By blocking α4β7, the therapy aims to protect CD4+ T-cells from infection and reduce viral replication, particularly in gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT). This synergistic approach is being tested in the Phase II EHVA T02/ANRS VRI07 trial to maintain viral suppression during analytical treatment interruption (ATI) in patients with HIV-1.
