Overview

Mycophenolate sodium + steroids is a **combination immunosuppressive regimen** used primarily in the prevention of organ rejection (notably in kidney transplantation) and in certain immune-mediated diseases (e.g., glomerulonephritis, nephritis). **Mycophenolate sodium** (in the brand form Myfortic) is a prodrug of mycophenolic acid, a selective, non-competitive inhibitor of the enzyme inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase, thereby inhibiting de novo purine synthesis in T and B lymphocytes. **Steroids** (glucocorticoids, such as prednisone or methylprednisolone) act via the glucocorticoid receptor, altering gene transcription to broadly suppress inflammation and immune activation. The combination is standard in transplant protocols and for some autoimmune conditions[3][4][1][2].
