A combination immunosuppressive therapy consisting of mycophenolic acid (often administered as mycophenolate mofetil), tacrolimus, and standard of care medications (typically including corticosteroids). This regimen works through complementary mechanisms to prevent organ rejection in transplant recipients. Mycophenolic acid inhibits inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), blocking purine synthesis and lymphocyte proliferation, while tacrolimus inhibits calcineurin, preventing T-cell activation and cytokine production. This combination is primarily used in kidney, liver, heart, and lung transplantation, and increasingly for autoimmune conditions.
