Mycosol (Surface Ophthalmics)

Mycosol (SURF-101) is a first-in-class prescription eye drop being developed by Surface Ophthalmics for the chronic treatment of dry eye syndrome (DES). The formulation contains mycophenolate (mycophenolic acid), a small molecule immunosuppressive agent, delivered in a proprietary vehicle designed to provide sustained effects at the ocular surface. Mycosol works by selectively inhibiting the replication and proliferation of T-lymphocytes and antibody-producing B-lymphocytes, which are central to the inflammatory cycle of dry eye disease. In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, the drug promotes mucin upregulation to enhance the ocular surface environment. Mycosol has completed Phase II clinical development and is currently Phase III ready.
