Overview

MyoCell II + stromal cell-derived factor 1 is an experimental combination therapy developed for cardiac regeneration, specifically targeting congestive heart failure and myocardial infarction. The product consists of autologous skeletal myoblasts (MyoCell) combined with stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1), also known as CXCL12, which is typically delivered via a plasmid gene therapy or as a recombinant protein. The skeletal myoblasts are intended to integrate into damaged myocardial tissue to improve contractile function and ventricular wall thickness. SDF-1 acts as a potent chemoattractant that binds to the CXCR4 receptor, facilitating the homing, retention, and survival of the transplanted myoblasts while simultaneously recruiting endogenous stem cells to the site of injury to promote angiogenesis and tissue repair. This dual-action approach aims to overcome the limitations of single-cell therapies by enhancing the microenvironment for cardiac recovery.
