Overview

N(6)-dimethylallyladenine, also known as isopentenyl adenine or IPADE, is a synthetic cytokinin belonging to the class of 6-alkylaminopurines. It acts primarily as a plant growth regulator and is widely used in agriculture and plant biotechnology to promote cell division, differentiation, and organ development. Its main physiological functions include stimulating callus formation, inducing sprouting, promoting axillary shoot growth in various fruit crops (such as apples and pears), increasing fruit set rate, improving yield, enhancing resistance to disease and cold stress in plants, and delaying senescence of leafy vegetables. The mechanism of action involves mimicking natural cytokinins by binding to cytokinin receptors in plants; it also has been shown experimentally to inhibit cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2), suggesting potential activity on ATP-binding proteins[1][10]. There are no approved pharmaceutical indications for human use.
