Overview

n,n-dimethylphenethylamine (also known as N,N-DMPEA or n-phenethyl dimethylamine) is a substituted phenethylamine alkaloid and a small molecule neuromodulator. Naturally occurring in the orchid *Eria jarensis*, it is primarily utilized as an ingredient in dietary supplements, specifically pre-workout and fat-burning formulations, where it is purported to enhance energy, focus, and athletic performance. The compound is believed to increase synaptic concentrations of dopamine and noradrenaline, acting as a central nervous system stimulant. While it has been investigated for potential therapeutic use in ophthalmic solutions for dry eye conditions, it is not currently an approved pharmaceutical drug and is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for use in competitive sports.
