Overview

N-(chlorophenyl)-N'-hydroxyguanidine is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the class of chlorobenzenes and guanidines. It is an experimental compound with no current clinical approval. The molecule acts as an inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3, also known as endothelial NOS or eNOS), thereby modulating nitric oxide production in biological systems[1]. In biochemical studies, it undergoes oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes and nitric oxide synthases to yield products such as urea, cyanamide, and various nitrogen oxides including nitric oxide itself[10]. Its primary mechanism involves interference with the enzymatic generation of nitric oxide from L-arginine by binding to NOS3[1][10]. The compound has been explored for its diverse biological activities but remains at the preclinical/experimental stage without established therapeutic indications[9].
