Overview

N-(Sulfanylacetyl)Tyrosylprolylmethioninamide is a synthetic oligopeptide composed of sulfanylacetyl, tyrosine, proline, and methionine amide residues. It belongs to the class of organic compounds known as oligopeptides. This compound functions as an inhibitor of lethal factor (LF), a protease component of the anthrax toxin produced by Bacillus anthracis. LF cleaves mitogen-activated protein kinase kinases (MAPKKs or MAP2Ks), disrupting cellular signaling and leading to rapid cell death in macrophages. The peptide itself is not toxic but acts as an inhibitor that can block the activity of LF, potentially preventing its cytotoxic effects[1]. Its primary research application has been in studying anthrax toxin mechanisms and potential therapeutic interventions.
