This investigational combination therapy, developed by Badr University in Cairo, Egypt, consists of oral N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and Vitamin E administered as adjunctive treatments to standard topical therapy for mild psoriasis vulgaris. N-acetylcysteine (600 mg) acts as a synthetic precursor to glutathione, enhancing the body's direct antioxidant activity, while Vitamin E (1000 mg) provides additional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The therapy targets oxidative stress and inflammation by reducing levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), an oxidative stress marker, and interleukin-36 gamma (IL-36γ), a pro-inflammatory cytokine. Clinical evaluation in a Phase 3 trial (NCT05906498) demonstrated that NAC supplementation significantly improved clinical outcomes, including PASI scores and quality of life measures, in patients with mild psoriasis vulgaris.
