This drug combination consists of the tissue adhesive n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA), commercially known as Histoacryl, and the radio-opaque contrast agent ethiodized oil, commercially known as Lipiodol. In the context of clinical research at Minia University, this 1:1 mixture is utilized as a pancreatic parenchymal injection during pancreaticoduodenectomy. The NBCA component acts as a liquid adhesive that polymerizes rapidly upon contact with tissue fluids, creating a mechanical seal. The addition of Lipiodol serves to modulate the polymerization rate and provide radiopacity for visualization. The primary therapeutic goal of this intervention is to seal accessory pancreatic ducts and reinforce the pancreatic parenchyma at the site of the pancreaticojejunostomy anastomosis, thereby reducing the incidence and severity of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF).
