Drug intelligence / Profile preview
N-Propargyl-1(S)-Aminoindan is a small molecule belonging to the class of indanes. It is the S-enantiomer of N-propargyl-1-aminoindan and a structural analog related to rasagiline, which is the R-enantiomer. Unlike rasagiline, which is a potent and selective irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) used in Parkinson’s disease therapy, the S-enantiomer (N-Propargyl-1(S)-Aminoindan) exhibits very weak and poorly selective MAO inhibitory activity. The compound has been studied experimentally but has not advanced into clinical development or approval for any indication[2][4]. Its mechanism involves weak inhibition of amine oxidase [flavin-containing] B[4].
