Overview

A combination therapy consisting of nadolol (a non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist) and isosorbide mononitrate (a nitrate vasodilator). This combination is primarily used for the prevention of recurrent bleeding in patients with cirrhosis and esophageal varices. The therapy works by reducing portal hypertension through complementary mechanisms - nadolol reduces cardiac output and inhibits renin release by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors, while isosorbide mononitrate causes vasodilation, particularly in the venous system, by activating the nitric oxide-cGMP pathway.
